Hydrangea paniculata ‘Greenspire’
synonyms: H. p. ‘Green Spire’, H. p. ‘Green Fantasy’.
A seedling of H.p. ‘Unique’.
Bred by Robert and Jelena de Belder of Arboretum Kalmthout, Belgium, in 1975.
Hydrangea paniculata ‘Greenspire’ can grow into a large shrub, 2m. high and 4m. wide. The long, weeping branches give it more of an horizontal form.
Inflorescence: Panicles, 300mm x 150mm, comprise green unopened fertile flowers and creamy-white ray florets.
Colour in neutral soil: White, aging to green
Colour in acidic soil with AL present: White, aging to green
Ray florets: 4 sepals, entire, rounded, slightly overlapping, 45mm diam.
Zones: 3 to 9
Size: Large (to 2m high x 4m wide).
Leaves: Simple, opposite and deciduous. Mid-green. Ovate. Margin: serrate. Apex: acute. Texture of adaxial and abaxial surfaces: smooth and glossy. 100mm l x 60mm w.
