Hydrangea macrophylla Deutschland

Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Deutschland’ has robust mophead flowers which open bright pink and age through a deeper pink to deep red. In acidic soils the flowers may be violet to purple.

Inflorescence: Mophead, 220mm across. The bright pink florets have creamy-white centres. Similar to H. m. ‘Hamburg’ and H. m. ‘Alpenglühen’.


Bred by D. Baardse, Holland, in 1921.


Zones: 6 to 9

Size: Medium (to 1.5m).

Bright pink aging to deep red.

Color in acidic soil with AI present:
Violet to purple.


 

Ray florets: 4 sepals, slightly serrate. Rose-red with creamy-white centres. 55mm diam.

Leaves: Simple, opposite and deciduous. Broadly ovate to broadly elliptic. Margin: serrate. Apex: apiculate. Base: attenuate. Venation pattern: pinnate. Texture of adaxial and abaxial surfaces: smooth, glabrous, quite glossy. 160mm l x 120mm w.
