Hydrangea macrophylla 'Gartenbaudirektor Kühnert'

 

Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Gartenbaudirektor Kühnert’ is a medium-sized shrub giving excellent blue flowerheads in acidic soil but dity purplish flowers in alkaline soils. Prefers some some shade as flowers may scorch in hot sun.

Inflorescence: Mophead, 160mm across, with flattened corymbs. Good for cutting and drying.


synonyms: H. m. ‘Garden Baudirector Kühnert’ (misspelled).

Bred by Freidrich Matthes, Germany, in 1926.
